Lamination Business Card: Benefits, Cost and the Eco Trade-Off

A lamination business card is standard card stock sealed under a clear film, applied after printing. We print on 250gsm, 310gsm or 360gsm art card as standard business card options, then bond the film to the front and back.

The film, not the paper, is what the customer actually touches. It decides whether the card feels smooth or glossy, and whether it still looks good after a month in a wallet. The 360gsm stock measures 0.46mm thick, and it is the option most clients pick when they want a card that feels substantial.

Both finishes run in 1 to 2 working days after artwork confirmation, and both are quoted up front before you order.

Durability is the first reason. Lamination protects the card from friction. Corners do not fray and the print does not rub off, so the card still looks new when an uncoated card has worn out.

Aesthetics is the second. Gloss makes colours brighter, while matt gives a soft, non-reflective surface that reads as premium. Either finish makes the design look deliberate rather than default.

Functionality is the third. Laminated cards resist water, smudging and tearing on the surface. They survive better in pockets, events and daily handling, and keep the card in good condition.

The concern is fair. Lamination film is plastic and not biodegradable, so it lingers in landfill for generations. Recycling has limits too. The film must be stripped from the paper before it can be repulped; it needs extra steps for recycling, which makes it less sustainable. Laminated cards are not accepted in some recycling streams.
